Tourism is an important asset for the economy of Mexico. Not only
creates jobs and instigates local economic development but also helps to
keep alive Mexico’s traditions and protect its natural resources.
Not
many countries could claim to have been blessed with such a diverse
cultural, historical and touristic heritage such as Mexico’s. Its
geographical location is privileged and it has an excelent
infrastructure with regards to accomodation and services. Mexico is one
of the best tourist destinations due to the quality and variety of its
hotel’s services.
From the Pacific to the Caribbean, from the
desert to the rain forest, from the central plateau to the snow capped
volcanoes, Mexico’s spectrum of light, colour and landscapes showcases
the deep rooted unity of a nation adapting to modernity and proud of its
cultural heritage. No other country from the “New World” could offer the
wide tourist attractions such as gastronomy, beaches, archaeological
sites, history, folklore and colonial art.
With this in mind, three
words define Mexico’s tourist product: Hospitality, Culture and
Diversity.
Tourist promotion has an important role in keeping and
consolidating Mexico as a world tourist destination
Mexico’s beaches attractiveness is well known. Paradise beaches
surround Mexico’s shorelines at Cancun, Los Cabos, Bahias de Huatulco,
Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel and the white sand beaches of the
Riviera Maya. All ideal places for practicing water sports such as
fishing, diving, wind surfing, water ski and many more.
Another
tourist attraction are the Colonial Cities, a unique opportunity for
visitors to Mexico to experience first hand Mexico’s Colonial times.
The Distrito Federal (or Mexico City), Queretaro, San Miguel de
Allende, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas are cities with a true
Mexican character with historic economic, artistic and cultural
legacy. Traces of what Mexico used to look like during the three
centuries of Spanish occupation could also be found at Aguascalientes,
Michoacan, Puebla, Oaxaca and Mexico’s City Historic Centre. The core
of a nation once called New Spain.
Mexico’s heritage is not only
made of colonial treasures and stunning beaches but also
archaeological sites internationally recognised. So far 150
haeological sites have been explored and are accesible to the public
and there are over 29.000 registered all over Mexico. Two of the most
known ancient cultures of Mexico are the Aztecs of central Mexico and
the Zapotecs in the Pacific Coast. The Olmecs, in the Gulf of Mexico,
were the first civilisation in Mesoamerica and the Mayan, in the
Yucatan Peninsula, was one the most advanced civilisations in history.
