Tijuana has an attractive
offering of museums that narrate the city’s history and offer a look at the
latest tendencies in contemporary art.
Museo de las Californias. Located
in the Centro Cultural Tijuana, on the corner of Av. Paseo de los Heroes and Av. Francisco Javier Mina,
in the Zona Urbana Rio. This modern museum has a permanent
exhibit that chronicles the region’s historical development, from prehistoric
times to the middle of the 20th century. Open Tuesday through Friday
from 10:00 to 5:00 and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 6:15.
Casa
de la Cultura. Located on 5 Arturo Pompa Ibarra, at Av. Paris. Various cultural
events take place in this neoclassical building, such as workshops and
temporary art, sculpture and crafts exhibits. Open daily from 9:00 to 7:00.
Museo de
Cera. Located
at 8281 Calle Primera, at Av. Madero. This museum exhibits a large collection
of life-size wax figures of famous people from Mexico and other parts of the
world. Open daily from 10:00 to 6:00.
